that's not how recruiting works. you have limited time and resources. It involves more than just offering a kid a scholly. you have to put time into him and sell him your program and maintain that relationship.
and good luck telling a 5 star recruit like Akers that he's your guy when you're just blindly offering all the 5 stars you can.

There is merit to this, but remember last year when Felipe Franks was committed up to this time and then suddenly flipped to Florida. So if suddenly Brennan had flipped their only committed QB is Narcisse who is rehabbing surgically repaired knees. It never hurts to have a backup plan in place.
You do make a valid point about just throwing offers to every 5 star and telling your prime targets they are the apples of your eye.

This is true, and Bama spends a lot more money on recruiting.
