Not to hijack the post, but what is the best way to the gulf canal?
Is it safer to come from Des Almonds or Bayou Segnette?

Depends on the weather. Less open water to run from Segnette looking at a map. Never ran that route though. We typically launch in Bayou Gauche or occasionally at pier 90. Cataouche and Salvador can both get rough in bad or windy weather

Bayou Segnette. It's safer and probably quicker
