Sir, I am retired from the USAF and was the Operations officer at a recruiting squadron for 3 years. Yes, 81 is a very good score. Unless he bombed on one of the subdivisions of the test he should qualify for just about any job the air force has to offer.
You said he wanted to be an MD. I assume you don't mean "doctor" as you also mentioned his mechanical scores.
In any case good luck to your son, the air force was a fricking blast. Best years of my life.
