Better for what? DC traffic is bad on a good day. Add some weather and it's horrendous.
ETA: I've lived in NOVA since 1983 and have had just about every commute one can have from western Fairfax County.
Also, you should look at Fair Lakes. A lot of younger people are living in that area as there are plenty of condos and apartments plus you have great access to Fairfax County Parkway and your commute would be pretty easy down 123 to Lorton. Fairfax Town Center is close and Reston Town Center is only 5-6 miles away.
