I have to believe LSU didn't fire its winningest coach who also won a title, to turn around and hire a dline coach with a losing record as a head coach in any capacity and a .28 winning percentage as a permanent head coach.

I have to believe that.

I used to believe that. Then I actually saw what happened once O became HC. Now I have to believe it would not be bad at all if O kept the position, retained most of the staff, and hired a top flight "x's and o's" Off Coord along the lines of Kiffin at Bama (not saying or hoping we go after Kiffin). Recruiting, current staff you want to keep, and business-wise points to O. There would be no big buyout clause to cover and you save on top-end coach pay. That money can then go back into pool for OC and facilities and operating/recruiting.

Herman with any success at LSU will be gone in 3-4 years, and likely Aranda in that same time or sooner.

Coach O with any success at LSU would go nowhere. And with stability (and substantial $$$), there is a better chance to retain Aranda (and potentially groom him for eventual HC).

I see this scenario posted a lot. As I stated in another thread, if it takes an elite OC and DC for your HC to be successful is that really the coach you need? LSU won't always have elite OC's/DC's.

This mentality baffles me. This is pure speculation, and I guess you believe we should've passed on Saban too since he didn't stay here forever, right?
