My ex was a geologist grad and couldn't find a damn thing anywhere around here. She's been out of school for 10 yrs now and she finally has a lead but the pay is shite. I suggest trying a different field.

Geology can be a very good field, but most of top paying jobs are with advanced degrees. I was considering going back to school for geology.
However with the current job market (as others have said via oil-gas mining) it would probably be easier to find work via chemical engineering or some other broad discipline not tied to one area of work.
That being said, we are assuming an industrial career and not a research one.
