Long story short, I'm ready to come back to USA. However, I'm planning on using the foreign earned income exclusion this year to escape federal income tax.

I want to come home and stay the rest of the year but I am concerned about getting busted by being in USA over my allotted time. I would be here 10 days too long if I "cheat".

Any thoughts? Is this a terrible idea? Anyone with experience?

I really don't want to buy a ticket home for Thanksgiving and then buy another for Christmas.

You can request to have your passport stamped.

I'd love see a synopsis of your travels and your time in Columbia.

Maybe I should clarify, I don't need it stamped in case the IRS asks questions.

Yeah man. I'll do it in the next few weeks. I'm so in love with that country. Considering a permanent move...

In Mexico now on my way to Costa Rica.

From what I've read and remember they only stamp if you make the request.

Don't they scan it into the computer so there is a record of you going through passport control?

He is. He's trying to avoid federal income taxes by spending the year out of the country.

How long have you been out of the country? Where have you gone and how did I miss it?

Which city will you be leaving out of? Most Canadian cities have us customs in the Canadian airport so you go through General tsa then go to us customs to pre clear. I don't even recall ever seeing Canadian customs anywhere around.
