When a high school coach is fired these days, does he still get to teach social studies or whatever or is he completely booted?

They're teachers first, coaches second. A teacher can be fired as a coach but still stay and teacher.
This move was being rumored back in Spring. Not surprised. Glad Beard stayed at LO, great coach!
