How come the TV production kept us fans guessing when a foul occured?

I noticed a few times during the game I see penalties being enforced, but they never showed the ref making the call or displaying the "flag" icon. I was like WTF just happen.

Well on the late hit, the people in the stadium were guessing too cause the ref just dropped the flag in the pile of players on the sideline. Very few people even noticed it until the ref made the call.
