I'm honestly surprised at the split opinion on this board towards this movie. Given the story, the war scenes, and Mel Gibson, I figured it would be more appealing to most people on this board.

If so, I'm sure its because of how bad the trailer is.

But what Desmond Doss did is incredible, and Apocalypto was a great movie so I'm on board to see it.

You shouldn't be. This is a very right leaning board and a movie about a guy who refused to carry a gun while in the army is not going to viewed favorably by many here no matter how well it's made or how amazing the story is.
