I don't have experience with this but it sounds like you are getting hosed. In a couple years or so worth of insurance, you could buy a fireproof safe bolted to the slab, if you have room for it. If you have a monitered alarm system, no one is getting into that safe quick enough and they are protected during a fire. I would hedge my bets for a fireproof safe before I paid that outrageous amount to insurance every year.
