We have had discussions with LDWF biologist, Kisatchi biologist and Army biologist, there is some but limited game lost to the fires. Kisatchi is on a 3 year burn cycle currently which means of the 600k acres, they are burning 200k per year. Of all the days in the year, there are a limited number of burn days, due to wind, rain, moisture levels, etc. Because of the limited burn days, the burns tend to be large. It is not ideal for birds to burn in large clean blocks but it is better for the birds as a whole population to have a clean burn than to have no burn. Without the burns, the birds would have limited habitat. There was a discussion to try and have the fire teams perform less clean burns so that some cover is left, every other burn. I think that idea is still under review.
