I've been taking metropolol for over a year now. I still have an episode once a month or so, but it was every day. Cardiologist said the next step would be to stop and restart my heart if the beta blocker didn't work. Luckily they did.
ETA: I've had zero side effects except for a lower than normal (for me) BP.
