the only difference is that players vying for yearly awards are compared against one another. To get into the HOF, you must compare to current HOF'ers. Their numbers will never change. With year to year awards, they are always different.
a 60 WAR wont do anything for Pedroia if his other numbers dont compare to the likes of guys like Morgan and Sandberg or even Craig Biggio.
