It was basically Cobain's living funeral aired live. There is a lot of energy in that recording. If you watch the video, the performance of "Where did you sleep last night?" is haunting, and when he let's out that last gasp on the "shiver......the whole night through" you can pretty much see him give the ghost up captured on video. It haunts me every time.

While I don't disagree with that, this is as true for Staley, although he lived a few years after:

Nutshell

Watch his face from about 1:51 to 1:55 - if that isn't the face of someone who has been totally defeated by heroin, but is still showing up to give a show, I don't know what is - and it was the first song in a 70 minute set.

Just heartbreaking after all these years.

(And, FTR, I still think Courtney killed Kurt.)

Their last few performances were really hard to watch. Kurt looks like he's out of energy and just depressed. If you haven't seen it already, look how he acts when playing Serve the Servants: LINK

Of course he went into a drug coma afterwards.
