I think the most important definition of success would be...
Did the children turn out ok, like genuinely ok.
I'm a product of a pretty ugly divorce...to the outsider, my life probably looks pretty great, but in reality, I've got some pretty hefty baggage.

It doesn't matter how "successful" the divorce is. Unless one of the spouses was very abusive, threatening, etc., then the kids will always be a victim. Always. Their innocence will be destroyed and they will always think its their fault (unless they are older), no matter what is said.
And don't give me this horseshite about unhappy family bullshite. The kids WILL suffer. Period.
