Agree, Mason isn't even a close comparison, plus isn't half the person Ferentz is.
I've always really liked Iowa, but in all honesty, it's not the easiest place to win.
Hayden Fry is a legend at Iowa, and Ferentz is basically the same coach. Solid most years, a few random down years, and a few random years where they challenge the top.
I guess, but he's at best, their third most successful coach out of their last 7. It's not like they would be missing out on a lot if they took a chance.

put on your Walter Mitty hat.
you are a great coach at Northern Iowa and you win the AA national championship for the 2nd year in a row.
You hire an agent. You have solid offers from Iowa, UC-Berkeley & Rutgers, the State U of NJ.
Rutgers is sitting on top of premier Catholic league high school football and plays in the big 10. They have been down so long that a co-championship in a so-what league is looked upon as their big moment.
UC-Berkeley is the #1 public university in the USA and close to some big time high school ball and a short plane ride to Southern CA QBs.
Iowa has had no five star high school guys in a decade. They are a cut below Rutgers in academics.
Choose.
