Am I the only one who thinks this is a good move? Iowa could just as easily become Iowa state or Purdue or Kansas. They all have access to about the same amount of recruits.

Iowa was in ruins when Ferentz took over. Fry had stayed just a little too long and Iowa was like a one win team. Within 3 years Kirk had them in the Orange Bowl against USC. Iowa has been pretty solid ever since.

There have been some years where we've underachieved, and Iowa fans have been pissed, but it seems the ship is right again.

Go ahead and compare Iowa's seasons to others. He's had more Top 10 finishes, more "BCS" bowls, and more success since the turn of the century than Nebraska. Iowa looks around at what happened at Nebraska and K-State and a few other places and recognizes what a bad hire can do to a program.

What has changed? Brand new football facilities, led to much better recruiting classes, lead to last season's success. This year looks very promising too.

We have a term for what is going on, "New Kirk" is here now. "New Kirk" isn't as stodgy as old Kirk. New Kirk takes chances and dials up some razzle dazzle now and then.

It was a good move that adds stability to the program. The recruiting cycle is 6 years, putting KF out 10 years shored that up for a guy that is 61. Iowa sent the message he will retire here. The key is not the length or the money, it's the buyout, which was not disclosed. Few of us think KF will coach to the end of the contract.
