Except that it's the citizens tax money paying all that. The police officers involved aren't paying a single cent of that money.
I don't have the numbers, but I'm going to go ahead and be confident that a small fraction are ever brought up on criminal charges.
You really can't dispute that breaking the law as a police officer lands you in a LOT less trouble than breaking the same law as a civilian. There's a reason why it's big news when cops actually are charged with a crime.
