LSU’s defense, particularly its pass defense, was a huge problem last year. LSU ranked 27th in defensive S&P+, which is not good enough for a team that considers defense its calling card. LSU needs its defense to be great, and it was merely good, and it was downright terrible in November as it allowed 30, 31, and then 38 points in three consecutive losses

This is the issue. Besides the Alabama game, we weren't playing any defenses that were all that great, in fact, they were very very average, and LSU's offense struggled.

I can't sit here and blame the defense when it has bailed LSU out so many times. There have been a shite ton more offensive goose eggs than defensive goose eggs under Les Miles. The offensive garbage isn't Harris's fault either, its solely on the offensive strategy. Harris's stats are completely dragged down by attempts/opportunities.

quote:

The big difference is yards/attempt, in which Harris holds a 7.8 to 6.7 edge. That’s huge. Sure, Dobbs completes more checkdown passes.

Harris gains more yards, 179.8 yards/game to 176.2 on 68 less pass attempts.

Yeah, Harris should throw for some more touchdowns.

LSU pass attempts per game NCAA ranking since 2009

2009-98th
2010-108th
2011-112th
2012-101st
2013-110th
2014-120th
2015-115th

So, even in a year with two All-Pro WR's, LSU was still amongst the bottom quarter of teams in passing attempts per game.

Also, Steele was the DC, and he was replaced immediately after the season (change was made immediately). Our pass defense last year was the worst it had been in about 10 years, but of course, it should be noted that LSU has had some of the best defenses in LSU history within that a ten year span, so its not terrible overall, but its not the level LSU had been accustomed.

Bottom quarter??? That's more like the 98th percentile.

Of course we don't need to be top-tier in that stat. 2011 and 2013 prove that efficiency on O is much better.
