However, that is a risk you chose.

It's not like most people were just barely out of a flood zone. I was on a 500 year plain and got 3' of water. It's more of a risk that I drive through N. BR to get home sometimes.

And now, you want the government to bail you out for that risk.

I'm a taxpayer. This is why I pay taxes. Are you going to decline your social security pension when you retire? Or are you just talking shite?

I don't see how some people can't understand this. Why in the hell are people required to have a chunk of their paycheck allotted to support government programs that don't offer them anything in return?

This isn't people asking for a handout. It's people asking for a return on the money they've been sending in year after year.

That 500 year crap needs to GTFO. You may not live on or near water, but when you have that amount of rain, everything is going to back up, even if you are far away from a body of water.

Floods are not covered by homeowners insurance. Not having flood insurance is thus a hole, a risk that one has decided to self-insure. It may be a perfectly acceptable risk in your mind. But now, you want others to pay for the fact that you decided to self-insure, except, you didn't actually self-insure.

This, my friend, is no different than any other sort of bailout.

I'm in my 30s and have fully accepted that there will be no social security payments available for me when I retire, if I ever get to actually retire. Or, they will be so small that it will be a joke.
