We have at least 40 stadiums in our country that would rival any track and field stadium in the world and if the event were large enough they would be able to set up the track and infield events in about 3 weeks. But there just isn't enough interest in the sport to justify some huge arena dedicated solely to track. And with Bolt retiring the sport will only lose popularity.

This. If LA gets the 2024 Olympics the Coliseum is getting a temporary floor to accommodate the track.

There will always be another star that will come up and be popular.
