I was never in marching band, but doesn't more woodwinds and less brass equal a less powerful sound? If so, that's not good.

Yes. Definitely. A college marching band is a lot more powerful with more brass than woodwinds. Woodwinds help round out the sound, but the power is from the brass instruments. Ohio State doesn't even have woodwinds in their marching band.
