Yeah he was all that......I grew up in Birmingham and it seemed like he came through town 2-3 times a year. Now he is some kind of icon but then he was just this weird blues guitarist from Texas who could play like Hendrix.....but he had a huge local following in Birmingham and drew big crowds which is why seemed to always be playing there.
When he was on, he was incredible. However he was also fricked up a lot of the time and not very impressive. I saw him at his low at a New Years Eve Show at the Fox in Atlanta and it was total shite.....he was beyond wasted with his roadies helping him on and off stage. By the time I saw him with Jeff Beck he was back on his game. It was shortly after that tour he got killed. It was too bad because he was he was playing better than ever.
SRV live was a mixed bag live but there is no denying his genius. It's shame because once he sobered up there is no telling what could have been.
