Here's what I'm confused about. If the "early church" didn't have "this rapture bullshite", then what does these two verses mean?

This is a pretty valid question and I just checked the King James version, there's not much difference so I'm not sure where this came from but I'll do some research tomorrow and retort.

But you've gotta keep in mind that this is a consistently evolving faith. They invented and reneged on purgatory and indulgences over the centuries. I'll be surprised if there's no political motivation for this shift as well.

I'm too drunk for a decent rebuttal, til tomorrow sir

I'm guessing there may be some roots in misinterpretations or evolving notions of "the remnant."

I've also known some mainline protestants who were extremely concerned about being part of "the elect" who are called home to Jupiter.

There are some different and conflicting traditions there that I've really put much time into studying, but I imagine there are some historical reasons for a large audience to embrace LaHaye's lasted fiction-based innovations. There's also been some growth in Catholic apocalyptical fiction in recent years for some reason, but nothing as successful as LaHaye.
