Coaches can't afford to think like that. Just recently it would have cost us a five star in Jacoby Stevens to cut ties when it looked like he was locked up to someone else. These guys work 247, wasting time isn't really an issue, especially since the texting and contact rules have been relaxed.
Leatherwood and Cowan aren't taking someone's spot on the visit, or consuming attention that would be paid to other targets. Good recruiters provide every recruit with the amount of contact they want without crossing over to the point of annoying. That inevitably is gonna leave a few hours in the day to spend on longshots.
Like I said, things can change on a dime. One of these years Saban actually will retire. A crucial position coach could get another job, or a guy whose spot they promised could forgo the draft. If you cut ties, you ruin the chance to be the school that swoops in and capitalizes on that situation.

Stevens and Cowan are far different. Stevens jumped around quite a bit and had numerous schools in mind. Cowan, if my memory serves me correctly, has been all tide for a while now.
I understand that but still think the risks outweigh the rewards in this instance. We aren't talking about Tennessee or Auburn here. Bama has a pretty damn good pitch. I'd like to keep anyone and everyone associated with them the frick away from LSU recruits. JMO.
