I liked this movie and the DCEU a whole lot more before I watched Batman Begins a couple of nights ago. Whoops.

There are a few people that defend it like their firstborn, but majority I've seen think it's dogshit.
That's not an indictment of your tastes. I like plenty of movies that are generally considered crappy.

oh I know - and believe me, at the end of the day as long as myself and my wife enjoy a movie, it is all that matters to us.
At the end of the day reviewers and critics opinions mean very little to me. if the movie has my interest, I will go see it.

Finally watched this.
What a weird movie. Yes it's bad, but I do think it some redeeming qualities, and some not half bad ideas.
But wow, Ayers, the producers, etc. it's a complete mess. Took way too long to spin up, it left seemingly good ideas sprinkled everywhere without allowing them to bloom.
It didn't try to do anything unique, it put it's pieces into play, literally without the story facilitating that, and then went for the easiest conclusion, despite that creating character problems.
It really feels like DC is trying to over-engineer and be far too reactive to reviews and to competing properties - Marvel and non-Marvel. DC just needs to get out of its own way on this one.

TBF, I think the problem is more WB than DC.

Fair point.
I actually liked the setup idea (but it could have been, I don't know, 20 mins. shorter), a few of the characters, and thought there was a decent message to be had.
They had this thread of "what people really want" driving the whole thing, but the only character worth redemption (Deadshot), wasn't used properly, and the only character that could have made a strong change - Flagg - missed the chance.
Deadshot was literally the only character to change from start to finish....and he wasn't necessarily the hero. This was the epitome of an event film.
Missed Opportunity.

You ever seen the documentary The Death of Superman Lives?
It's absolutely a major Warner Bros problem and it's infuriating. They can't get out of their own fricking way

Suicide Squad almost mirrored Superman Lives. That documentary is heartbreaking to watch a production studio arse frick a talented director and good ideas into the ground.
Written in less than two months
3 different editors
2 directors
A reshot third act.
Etc... This was never going to be a good movie with all that

I liked Suicide Squad, not a perfect movie but still enjoyed it enough to watch again.
I think Daredevil, to me, is the movie that the studios destroyed. Director's cut is a solid film where the theatrical version is pretty bad.
