Interestingly enough for those who didn't already know, you can take the CA bar without a JD, which I always wondered how that plays out in reality if they pass.

I assume they immediately have to hustle for criminal defense clients.

There are currently 6 states that allow taking the bar without a J.D. or any degree for that matter. That does not mean they do not require education in the law. California requires 5 years of study supervised by an attorney, 18 hours per week with regular exams, the other states have similar requirements.
