I don't really look at it from this stand point, but I can see why you see it this way.

I just think he's a guy who has the ability to go out and pitch an 8 inning shutout every time he takes the mound, but that doesn't mean he's going to. His command has been lackluster at times this season and the amount of home runs and BB's he's surrendered this year prove that. But if he's locked in then he's a top five guy in baseball IMO.

Hamels is as consistent as they come, 200+ innings with a sub 4 ERA going on 7 years now. His numbers with the Rangers aren't much different than with the Phillies and most pitchers regress a little bit when switching from NL to AL. Calling him below average is poor trolling
