How does buying guns online work?
If the seller is across state lines from you, you will have to arrange to have the weapon shipped to a local FFL dealer, who will then complete the transaction and process your 4473 and NICS check for you, typically for a fee (normally $10 to $25, but some charge more.)

This. Some sites (like Budsgunshop) have a data base pre-registered with FFL dealers that they have done business with. Other, smaller online sales, may require you to send them a copy of your chosen FFL dealer's license. I have also had the online retailer (small gun shop up north) contact my chosen FFL dealer themselves for the license. Either way, it's easy. Then all you should have to do is let the FFL dealer you are transferring to know that it is coming (some may have you fill out a form with basic information with your name, number, address, gun make and model, etc.). The FFL dealer I use here in my part of Texas charges $10 with a CHL and $15 without, but I have seen some transfer fees as high as $50. So I would recommend shopping around for FFL dealers as well. You can do a quick google search for dealers in your area.
