Sure you can go that route but I also know many people who have all kinds of problems w/Toyotas and Hondas even those are generally supposed to be the best when it comes to not having mechanical issues and such.

Sometimes you just get a lemon or a shitty mechanic (and I lean towards the latter in most cases TBH)

I really don't. Toyotas and Hondas are boring, and with Toyota in particular, often behind on features and low on power, but they're insanely reliable and long-lasting. The only thing better is Subaru, but they have a... stigma.
