case in point right after boateng blocked girouds shot giroud had a nice layoff to griezemann and boateng blocked his shot too. earlier griezemann had a shot go side netting.
there is nothing wrong with those plays happening, but they went unmentioned here. so yeah the "giroud brings it on himself" defense falls pretty short.
