Greece - picking islands

I am going to Greece in September. September is the shoulder season there with lesser crowds and warm weather.
I was hoping to get some help picking the islands.
We are set on Santorini for 4 nights at the end of our trip before we fly back (flights are already booked).
We want to check out 1-2 more islands apart from Santorini. Between our TATL flight into Athens and out to Santorini, we have a whole week. I would like to be in Athens the day before, just to save some legroom before our flight out to Santorini. So may see some of Athens that day.
We are trying to pick the most time efficient islands. I initially wanted to do Zakynthos but that is out of the running now as it is completely out of the way in the Ionian. We are trying to stick with Islands in the Aegean which have much better ferry connections and cheaper flights. That leaves us with the following islands:
1) Mykonos
2) Rhodes
3) Crete
4) Naxos
5) Paros
6) Milos and some other small ones
It would be great if we could go to one island for say 3 days and do a day or two worth of partying in Mykonos. If not, that is ok.
Suggestions please?

I wouldn't have a connecting flight out of Turkey right now...

Haha how did you even know I was connecting out of Turkey? I am in-fact connecting out of IST (MSY-IAH-IST-ATH). Generally speaking, I don't usually let these things bother me. That's how the terrorists win :) Chances of me getting blown up are very little and one can't possibly see them coming. It could happen anywhere.
I will monitor the situation however and see if the US issues a travel advisory in the coming months.

I spent 3 weeks on Rhodes and have been to Symi.
Let me know if you start thinking about it.
I wouldn't change my itinerary if I'm just transferring through IST.

Rhodes is actually top of my list because of the images I'e seen, seems like a decent enough size for our short time budget (3 days), and cheap flights there ($sub $90 RT). Crete for ex is the same in everything except it is huge.
If Naxos/Paros are better or equal options compared to Rhodes, then I'll pick those because they are really well connected by ferries and will be the easiest for me to do ATH-Naxos/Paros-Mikonos-Athens by ferry in the week that we have.

Ya Rhodes is pretty large.
It contains another acropolis called Lindos.
Some nice beaches, etc. You can drive around the island in a car pretty easily.
I'll post some pics.
Fair warning: I spent pretty much 21 out of 23 days on bar street there getting hammered and then getting sun in the afternoon.
Bar tenders knew who we were by the time we left
Not many Americans on the island.

You could definitely spend 3 days on Rhodes. Go check out the ancient city surrounded by the walls and check out the acropolis of Lindos and the beach close by on St. Paul's Bay over there. Athens, Santorini, and Rhodes would make for a nice vacation.

These are all Rhodes that I already had on IMGUR:
Tsambika beach

I recommend not going to Mykonos. it is 95% homosexuals. but if you enjoy lots of male nudity on beaches, go for it

I would take ruxpin's advice and see Rhodes. it is great. Naxos is a party island, paros is more laid back. I like both.

Wtf? Literally noone ever mentioned this about Mykonos before

I'll say this, when I was there in 2009 I heard Mykonos was kind of a party island.
Now, I've seen a few bloggers who are gay talk about going to Mykonos and that it's getting crowded.
Putting two and two together it would not surprise me

ThePointsGuy and OneMileataTime are the big obvious ones.

TPG you kind of have to read between the lines some times. OMAAT is pretty obvious. He mentions and has his BF post all the time.

If you're on a time crunch, I wouldn't do Crete. It's really large. I spent two weeks there, and I could have spent a lot longer (though I was hiking/camping most of the time).

No one mentions it because it is usually word of mouth. I didnt realize it until i was on the ferry on the ride over and a fellow traveller told me. Its extremely beautiufl, the building code doesnt not allow for a building other than that white stucco. I liked walking around.
The nightlife is super gay unless you go to one of the hostels on the beach that have their own bars. Which are feally fun And easy to meet chicks and friends.
Just depends what beach you are on but there are lots of gay greek men on all of them and yes they dont like tanlines. They are usually fully nude. The beaches are gorgeous, im just warning you because no one warned me.
