Ain't gonna happen in Baton Rouge. Your best bet if you want it done right is to send it off to an authorized Nikon factory repair shop. You should be able to find that info online. Google is your friend.

Nikon has clamped down on "shade-tree" repair shops - cut off access to parts.

The VR went out on my Nikon 70-200/2.8. Ken Rockwell recommended a guy by the name of Berrie Smith. I called Berrie - he couldn't do it anymore. He referred me to these guys..... they did a nice job.

On a more practical note - unless you're sentimentally attached to the D90, you might consider just getting a new or slightly used full-frame body, considering what the repair will cost you. Pretty much no way around some serious $$ for the repair. Prepare for sticker shock.
