To add to my earlier post:

Always, and I mean ALWAYS, go out of your way be courteous and nice to the airline counter attendant. If something goes wrong with your flight, they can move heaven and earth to get you where you need to go. But if you give them attitude or talk down to them or are a jerk in way, you have zero shot of getting any more help than they are required to give (which isn't much).
