They won. They were a better TEAM. It's not always about talent and coaching. If you ever played you would know that. What I love are people who make stupid posts that never played beyond LL. Or played for a great coach.
I've been part of teams that played up in class (3 classes in fact) and waxed others from both private and public schools because we were from a small town and played together for a long time. Then went on to play with other players who were all college players and we didn't win as much. Why? Because we were the best of that area and didn't play as a team.
You're measured by your failures in baseball and it is very difficult to flush it for some than others especially because we put so much pressure on them on top of the pressure they put on themselves.
Set reasonable expectations for teams that rebuild. You could thank the NCAA for the parity when they limited scholarships to 11.7. That created the parity and allowed for more competition.
Our past success was the reason for the meteoric rise in college baseball.
