Same thing happened to me before, many years ago. Turned out to be the thermostat. Also running it at 80 is pointless and you should just save the money wasted by turning it off.

I couldn't disagree more.

My last apartment had AC issues for a few days. Turns out the entire unit needed to be replaced. I had kept it running for the first couple days, and temp would not get below the low 80's.

On the last night, it was turned off completely. That night was one of the hottest it's ever been inside of a living space for me. Next day, temps got into the mid 90's inside the house without it running. Miserable.

Granted, my landlord was awesome and fixed it immediately when she found out we needed an entirely new unit/system inside the house.
