How did Penny know to look for an electro-magnetic anomaly if she had no idea that Desmond was in the hatch (Ms. Widemore? We found something)?
Was that actually Walt that appeared to Shannon? When the show first aired, I figured it was the smoke monster but it was later explained that he can only appear as people whose body was on the island and not buried. Bea asked Micheal if his son ever appeared somewhere he shouldnt have been. I thought Walt had the power to project himself (giant ghost Walt) yet if he did you'd think he would have mentioned that to Locke when he met him in New York.
In order for the Ajira flight to find the island, they had to recreate the events as best as possible. Why didn’t that include Walt? The flash-forwards were 3 years later meaning the actor’s growth spurt would not have been an issue anymore. That was the main reason Walt was barely seen in seasons 2-4.
What would have happened had the fail safe key not been used?
Why wasn’t Ben able to see or hear the smoke monster (or whoever the hell it was) that said help me in the cabin?
If Ben could always kill Charles why didn't he do so the night in the hotel? He claimed there were rules yet that didn't seem to matter when he finally shot him.
Why did the man in black turn into a smoke monster when he went into the light but Jack didn't?
Hurley can see dead people. Does that mean Dave was dead or was he truly just an imaginary friend?
Who was in the outrigger that shot at them during the flashes?

(Tap) Is this thing on?

I just watched for the first time, and it's pretty apparent that from Ep 1, the entire series is open to viewer's interpretation. I can't imagine watching in real time for 6 years. Didn't the writers basically admit they had no plan to end the show, and were taking drugs the whole time?

1) Her father was from the Island, so I think it was a reasonable guess that she knew that the only reason he sponsored the "Race around the World" was to find the Island. So she looked for electromagnetic anomalies due to what her father told her about the Island, and what he was surely looking for himself.
2) I don't know about that specific Walt instance and don't care. I think it's somewhat implied it was Walt himself there.
3) Simple answer: he was too old.
4) End of the world it's implied
5) This one is easy: because the Smoke Monster didn't want Ben to hear him. Ben was key to his plans, and he wanted him to be eratic as possible.
6) I think once Jacob died the rules went out the window until the new protector made them. If Hurley made the rules, then Ben couldn't break them.
7) I personally think that Dave in the hospital was Libby's first husband, and on the Island it was MIB trying to convince Hurley to kill himself.
8) I can answer this definitively. That was an abandoned plot. It was supposed to be Jack's crew from Season 6 shooting at Sawyer's crew from Season 5. They just couldn't implement it.

Reading you OP confirms how stupid this show is/was and that I made the right decision by never watching an episode

You missed out on a terrific show. I was also very skeptical of this show and honestly, I could not have watched it in real seasons. It would have frustrated the hell out of me having to wait. I'm glad I did binge watch it over Netflix though.

Having the race around the world in order to find the island is a great theory. Also, it occurred to me that Widemore was such a dick to Desmond to ensure that he would end up on the island after his future son told both him and Eloise of his importance. I also thing the flash sideways were planned since season 2 (see you in another life brother).
How did giant Walt appear to Locke in the dharma grave? The show was so inconsistent when it came to seeing things (Jack seeing Christian in the hospital in the flash forward, Young Ben seeing his mom on the island, Michael seeing Christian on the freighter). If that was the smoke monster on the freighter, why didn't he just sail away to the main land?

Show really started getting bad the minute Ben showed up.

I couldn't stand the whiney Henry Gale version of Ben. I thought he was a terrible actor. I changed my mind once he revealed who he really was.

I just found your thread today. Your questions are
the same ones that I feel need answers also, but I know that we will not get them. I did find a critic that feels the same way that I do about LOST.
It started out great, but ended terrible because the
writers did not answer the questions.

Yeah, you're right. The finale should have instead been a 3 hour Comic Con panel where the fans ask Damon and Carlton for all the answers.

My biggest take away from season 2 was why the hell did the others make such an effort to appear like hill-billies with fake beards? Instead of kidnapping people, why not invite them to New Otherton and be honest with their intentions? They didn't need to be enemies and kill. Instead of kidnapping Claire why not just say, "Hey, pregnant women die on this island. Take this medication". I'm also pissed that there was no payoff to Charlie's greatest hits list. They needed to have a scene where Claire receives it from Desmond.
