it wasn't scary. barely even creepy
The movie is set in the 'horror' genre, but I disagree with that placement.
To me, it was a film that I felt like I shouldn't be watching. It almost felt 'forbidden' and that was something I haven't felt in a good while from a movie. It was more disturbing than anything else.
I won't lie, my gf and I went to see it and we had no clue what it was gonna be about it. I loved it, she hated it.

Ditto with the old English from the father, I could hardly understand a word he said. It Got to be annoying and I was in the theater.
Otherwise a solid movie. Get well done

This is spot on. I hate to be judgmental and people have every right to dislike this movie BUT I cannot help but think that many were expecting some plug and play horror flick and stumbled into a much more period, religious and dare I say realistic take on the horror genre
That's not what I was expecting and certainly not the reason for my negative view. It doesn't pull off that genre, period.
I don't know about others but I like creepy ambiguous slow burns. The movie didn't turn me off because lack of jump scares. Loved Cache (maybe the most ambiguous, lack of jump scares, nothing really settled movie of all time) ... loved Tell No One. I like the in between. I just think this movie lacked the gravatis of those because it just wasn't that interesting or even a feeling of dread like It Follows. The movie needed a little more to create that strangeness. It was good but too subtle...almost to the point of nothing ness.

yeah that actor has a great voice but it was tough to deal with the voice + what he was saying + his accent + the mixing

It Follows was fricking terrible ... unless you are simply a fan of loud 80s electronic music and no dialogue.
