re: Nitrogen in tires?

Tempature does not affect nitrogen at 92% or higher. Which means tire pressure stats consistent no matter tire temp. In turn , helping prevent tire monitor lights always coming in and it helps with gas mileage

Any stability in tire temperature from using only nitrogen is due to the absence of moisture that would be present in compressed air.

Some Einstein's in this thread. the difference in molecular size is miniscule at best.

I've heard a lot of crap about the N2 tires before, but never heard someone claim that Nitrogen was immune to thermal effects in high enough concentrations.
No, sorry, Nitrogen is affected by temperature just like every other gas:

yes but nitrogen is a dry gas, oxygen carries humidity which expands when heated...
and they aren't the same, i think its a 1.4kj difference which isn't much but pure oxygen is better then nitrogen with heat, but then you are still paying for someone to compress it properly (and im not talking about a simple air compressor) which costs more than nitrogen but leaks through the tire faster so your still at a loss.
Nitrogen is better, its really just a conversation about how much gain do you get for how much you have to pay.

Musson patout in new iberia added 499 charge for nitro in tires.
That is just robbery.
It cost me $10/tire when I got it. And they top it off for nothing when I get my oil changed.

Dumbasses, go with your nitrogen filled tires.
Allow me to sell you some land south of cameron.
Wow, how fricking ignorant are you?

Yeah, some businesses just take advantage of people. Wholesale on nitrogen is about $.17 per cubic foot. 4.5 cubic feet will be around 10-15 psi per tire. at 30 psi * 4 tires you need 36 cubic feet = $6.12 for all 4. Charging $10 for a full fill up from new tires or $2.99 to top off and your still making a profit.

ignorance is lacking knowledge, i can provide you with some technical data sheets explaining the difference in air compressor oxygen vs nitrogen in tires if you would like. there has been some long winded studies on this if you understand GLS and OLS regressions... just in case you want to educated yourself and be less ignorant

Apparently you didn't read my own experience posted earlier. I never worry about checking the pressure or needing to top off with an air compressor.
When I get my oil changed they top it off for me for nothing. The tires lose about a 1/2 lb of pressure each over about a 6 month time period.
On my previous car, when I replaced the tires I decided to try Nitrogen. No one suggested it to me there. I asked for it.
I have been happy with it, and when I got my new car I went back to the same place and had them put Nitrogen in right away.
Why do you care so much about what I choose to spend my money on? I definitely have seen tangible positive results. For ME it is worth the money. My time and my peace of mind are worth far more than that $40.

THANK YOU!
Not only did your experience show you there is a benefit but there is scientific proof.
Free air or free nitrogen... how is this is hard choice?
Should you spend $50 filling up no! but that has nothing to do with nitrogen, that's dirty businesses!

I don't think you are supposed to use nitrogen in your tires if the temperature is going to get over 100 degrees. It will then turn to liquid nitrogen and just slosh around in your tires.
Posted on 6/4/16 at 2:00 pm to pchwinner
um... nitrogen turns liquid at like -300 F... as it warms up it turns to gas

Helium doesn't explode. It's inert.

You just start losing the benefits of Nitrogen.
which would be what?
Less oxygen to support combustion when your brakes overheat.
(at least that's why high-performance aircraft use N2)
