Oh it was obvious when they were in distress versus I'm pissed off and dont want to go to bed.
And the intervals work, you go in and comfort them, get them calm and put them back down.

Exactly. It takes some work but it generally works.
News flash: raising an infant is hard work, and you're going to lose sleep. Just comes with it. There's no sure fire method for all babies. Some sleep, some don't. What that article didn't mention was the age groups they were studying and the fact that infants feed in the middle of the night. So much grey area here.
