This was tried once a Kong time ago, back when Ron Luciano was an ump. It was some kind of radar system the home plate ump adjusted to the batter's height. It worked by setting off a red light if any object entered the strike some. Problem was all the false positives.

i don't know if it would work or not, and i understand the desire for the dynamics of the umpire/batter/pitcher interaction ... however, it's damned silly the way umps call strikes ... a strike is a strike ... the atlanta braves pitchers of the 80s/90s made a living off of "strikes" that were just off the corner (except for smoltz) ... the strike zone shouldn't be so interpreted as it is now ...
