They were slaughtering hundreds of thousands of jews in their home cities and burying them in large mass graves from Poland to Lithuania and elsewhere from 38-41 before the camps were a "thing".
Complete annihilation of the race was a main goal from the initial invasion of Poland to the surrender almost a decade later.
