Lol nice!
So once I get the modem if I hook coax feed to that and run the cat cable to the box box for router duty will I need to turn off some modem feature in the cox box or will it not be doing modem work since the coax is not hooked to it?

Just replace the modem you have with the new one..You'll have to call Cox and let them know a few numbers from the new one, but you should be good after that...Not saying it will solve your problems, but eliminating everything on your end is the best way to go
