I hear the recommendations all of the time to "go left" once in side the parks....honestly, we've never gone to the right to start the day. We've ALWAYS gone to Adventureland first.
I think the explanation of the people going to the right is probably more than likely a mad rush to get to Space Mountain so they have minimal wait moreso than it is an ingrained habit to go to the right.

Yeah, going to main attractions is the major force but the go left theory still works most places. Back when Pirates had 2 lines and no fastpass, the left line was always shorter.
