Fleas on a pet pretty easy to kill with shampoo.

Fleas in the yard spectracide makes something for that that works well.

Fleas in the house is tough. The only thing I've heard of working is one of those rainbow vacuums. Something about the eggs not being able to make it.

I don't think you need a special vacuum. Just vacuum frequently and dump the bags outside. I went to war with fleas inside on 3 occasions. It's a tough fight, but it's winnable. You have to attack entire problem in a broad ranging assault. Pet, pet bedding, traffic ways and the yard area where the pets roam. Keep in mind fleas don't like direct sunlight, so if you keep your grass cut short in the summer time, they'll be limited to more shady areas. And, fleas only spend a small portion of time actually on the pet. Your pet only carries 3 to 5 percent of the supported flea population at any one time.

I have a lot of experience killing fleas. I even wrote a song about it.
