White oak is decently tough but you will still have issues over time. Don't do pine. It is far too soft for the action you described. Also no heels wheels and don't drag anything or it will dent and ding. Most of the time when I see oak though it is nailed not glued. Glue downs are typically pines and other woods. May just be my experience though.
