I always heard it was actually pretty dangerous to visit. Supposedly was overrun with mocasins and there was unexploded ordinance depending where you stepped.
I still want to go, I bet there's cool stuff to be had if you dug around enough. That's the kind of thing that if not restored should be excavated by an archaeology team. In the words of Indy

It's Snake City. And gators. Anything of value was taken long ago. I suppose if you had an excavator you might be able to dig something up and maybe preserve th place, but that's a long shot. Most of the buildings are 90% underground. You can see where the fortification guns were set up.
