MLS growth process

why hasn't an any MLS owner thrown ridiculous money at a young star from Europe to come play for them? I know it would cost a shitload of money but the investment would be worth it and that player would become the instant face of American soccer and get mass endorsements while in Europe he would lag behind messi and Ronaldo. Maybe throw a ridiculous offer out for bale or lewandowski, make them say no
