Also, I'm sure these so called more "progressive" countries aren't paying their women as much as the men.
of course not
the national teams even in big soccer nations are not paying big.
The only club coughing up big ladies wages is Man City.
The women's pro league in America in the next few years will be passed by the one in England. The clubs who do have ladies teams can afford to pay the wages off the back of the men and their tv deals. While the women's entire league are subsided by the USSF. In time the best players in the world will come to England to play and that includes American girls, which has already happened. The ladies league here even has a national tv deal with matches on BT all summer long.

I liked that the article pointed out that some of the people complaining are part of the problem. Portland draws a good crowd for their women's games, around 10k to 15k I believe, but it's horrible in other cities. If people want women to make more money playing soccer start giving a shite outside of world cup years. I've been to 2 USWNT games. The first in Birmingham shortly after the World Cup. It was hot and played in a shitty stadium in a shitty part of town but they drew around 35k on a Sunday. I saw the She Believes touney played here in Nashville and only 25k showed up. That's pretty sad considering you saw 2 games for around the same price of the Birmingham game played in a nicer stadium and included 4 of the best teams in the world. Also, the weather was nicer and also played on a Sunday. I guess the difference being that the World Cup mania coming to an end.
The anger shouldn't all be toward US Soccer. I see no outrage at cooperate America not paying more to advertise during women's games or the networks for airing some of the games via stream. So no outrage at FIFA for awarding more money for the men as well? I'm sure the teams that didn't advance from the groups in the men's cup took home more money than the USWNT did for winning their cup. Also, the cost of going to a men's game is almost double of that of a women's game.
I'm all for them making more money, but saying it should be the same as the men is a little absurd.
